An evaporative cooler (also swamp cooler, swamp box, desert cooler and wet air cooler) is a device that cools air through the evaporation of water. Evaporative cooling differs from typical air conditioning systems, which use vapor-compression or absorption refrigeration cycles. Evaporative cooling uses the fact that water will absorb a relatively large amount of heat in order to evaporate. Gust Goettl was an inventor, entrepreneur, businessman. Many times he did not invent a product, but he did used existing designs to influence future designs. For example, “he did not invent the evaporative cooler, he kept improving it”.One of his changes to this particular invention resulted in the "Combination Refrigeration and Evaporative Cooling Air Conditioner,” designed to improve.

      1. Not as effective as air conditioners in terms of cooling: An evaporative cooler or swamp cooler cannot lower the ambient temperature as much as a vapor-compression or refrigerant-based air conditioning units. In other words, it is not as effective and as efficient as air conditioners in terms of cooling capacity. Evaporative air conditioning handbook. Because evaporative cooling does not use recycled air like air conditioning does, you get only fresh, healthier cool air. The air is not dry, unlike air conditioning which tends to dry out the air and irritate some people’s eyes. Also stale air in your home is completely replaced with fresh air. At Metropolitan Air Conditioning, we suggest regular servicing of your evaporative cooling system. Regular servicing is important as the pads in the unit may need to be replaced. If you continue to operate a poor functioning unit, it will reduce the quality of your air and the cooling on: SA.

The third edition adds a new chapter which shows how evaporative cooling can be integrated into large-scale HVAC systems, with discussions of achievable savings, maintenance costs, cooling tower and finned coil indirect cooling, wet bulb economizers, precooling condensed air, makeup air and return air, humidity control, and more, including sample calculations as well as demonstration and engineering Cited by: Evaporative Air Conditioning Handbook 3rd Edition by John R.

Watt (Author)5/5(1). About this book. Air conditioning boosts man's efficiency no less than his comfort. Air-conditioned homes, offices, and factories unmistakably raise human productivity and reduce absenteeism, turnover, mistakes, accidents and grievances, especially in summer.

Accordingly, many employers every year cool workrooms and offices to raise summer profits. CAREL has published a new book: "Evaporative Cooling". As you know, evaporative cooling is a green technique for reducing the electric energy consumption of cooling equipments (dry cooler, chillers, etc.) yet maintaining the capability of the whole cooling system of abating the heat gains.

Based on the principles of evaporation, hot and dry outside air is pumped through water-soaked cooling pads. As the air is pushed through the cooling pads, the water evaporates and the heat in the air is absorbed, which lowers the air temperature.

Insix firms producedevaporative coolers; in25 firms produced 1, despite the phenomenal sale of refrigerating window air conditioners.

Though clearly secondary to refrigeration, evaporative cooling is 60 to 80 percent is economical for moderate income groups and cheaper to. Evaporative air conditioning uses evaporation to cool the air.

In an evaporative cooler, a pump circulates water from the reservoir on to a cooling pad, which in turn becomes very wet. A fan draws air from outside the unit through the moistened pad.

As it passes through the pad the air is. Compared to air conditioners that use compressors and refrigerants, swamp coolers use only water, a fan, and pump to saturate the cooling media and cool your space.

In fact, a inch evaporative air cooler operating for eight hours typically costs less than one dollar to operate, because the only costs associated with operating it are water. Evaporative cooling is a process which takes advantage of the latent heat of evaporation of water to absorb sensible heat from the surrounding air with which it is in contact.
